By far the largest specimens in all of Europe are those in the palace grounds at La Granja, Spain, northwest of Madrid. In a warm climate and with regular lawn watering, the larger specimen is 13 ft dbh and 130 ft tall, while the smaller of the two is more than 10 ft dbh and 133 ft tall (Figure 30). These two specimens were planted in the late 1800s. Because they grow in the open, they have retained their branches down to the ground and display a form that is rarely seen in its native habitat.

Heinz, vielen Dank für diese interessante Information.

Damit nicht jeder zum Taschenrechner greifen muss, anbei die Meter-Angaben für Höhe und Durchmesser in Brusthöhe [engl. DBH - Diameter Breast Height] beider Bäume in La Granja (lt. Angaben des Verfassers wurden diese Angaben bereits 1975 veröffentlicht Link):
1. Baum: 3,96 m Durchmesser @ Brusthöhe / 39,6 m Höhe
2. Baum: 3,05 m / 40,5 m
Die Durchmesser dieser Bäume sind aussergewöhnlich für Europa. Zum Vergleich: die (bisher erfassten) "dicksten" Sequoiadendron gig. in Deutschland haben einen BHD von 2.90 m.

Hallo Lutz K. und Kollegen,
habe ein wenig "gegoogelt" und bin der Meinung, dass die angeblich  stärksten Berg-Mammutbäume Europas, im südspanischen Ort 'Granja',  im dortigen Park/Garten
beim Lustschloß,  "La Granja de San Ildefonso Palacio" gedeihen!?

Ich hoffe es ist der Standort und jemand könnte es hier noch bestätigen. Leider nur auf dem ersten Bild erkennt man, dass der rechte Baum vermutlich an leichter Gipfeldürre (schütter) leidet und wohl ein wenig unschöner ausschaut als der andere "Mammut"!?. Dies müßte man sich mal vor Ort anschauen.
