These trees, many 1,500 years old or older, each survived dozens of fires in the historical regime before being killed by the Castle Fire. The death of these archetypes of fire-adaptation is a tragic demonstration of the profound differences between the world to which California ecosystems are adapted and the world that we are transitioning to."

"The Windy Fire has burned through Peyrone Grove, South Peyrone Grove, Red Hill Grove, Long Meadow Grove, Cunningham Grove, Parker Peak Grove, Packsaddle Grove, Starvation Creek Grove, Deer Creek Grove, North Cold Spring Grove, and Black Mountain Grove.
The KNP Complex Fire has burned or is currently burning through Suwanee Grove, Oriole Grove, a portion of the Giant Forest, New Oriole Grove, Skagway Grove, Pine Ridge Grove, Muir Grove, Atwell-East Fork Grove, and Castle Creek Grove. It is also currently headed toward Big Springs, Redwood Mountain Grove, Lost Grove, and Redwood Meadow Grove."

"After the Castle Fire last year, it was reported as a beneficial burn. Of course we know now (largely due to my shouting about it) that it was so bad it killed a whopping 10,000 giants. After the fire, Forest Service reps saw some sequoias that were fine and drew a huge and wildly inaccurate conclusion from it, which was then repeated by everyone. (This has since been corrected). These new fires are even more likely to be reported inaccurately. Most of the burn is out of view and closed off. The only two places that will get any sort of reasonable reports will be the famous named tree area of Giant Forest and the popular Trail of 100 Giants (a basin of big trees that’s part of Long Meadow Grove). Highways slice right through both of these groves. Also, Giant Forest was back-burned. Trees were foil wrapped. The sequoias there have the highest chance of survival. Giant Forest in particular seems to be all anyone talks about. There’s no mention in the media or reports about the scores of other sequoias on fire. We won’t know what really happened until someone like me actually goes in to look. And that will take time. The fire is still burning."

- Soso, die Save the Redwood League ist also mit im Boot bei Clearcuts in Groves mitten im Giant Sequoia Schutzgebiet (GSNM).
Das kommt nicht unerweartet. Diese League is m.E. seit langem schon nur noch eine Geldmachine und sie wollen der spendenen Welt beweisen daß sie 'etwas gegen die Feuer unternehmen'. Daß sie hier die Regenerationskraft der Natur aushebeln und jede natürliche Regeneration sogar noch kaputt machen, ist ihnen dann anscheinend egal; weil man für 'einfach in Ruhe lassen' schwer um Geld bitten kann ! (Unsere Medizhin hat dasselbe Problem ...)
Wenn auf dem zerwühlten Boden nach dem Loggen, und im darauf explodierenden Gras/Gebüsch dann keine Naturverjüngung mehr aufkommen kannm, fällt das ja erstmal niemandem auf. Hauptsache die 10% größten BM stehen noch !
Und schliesslich wird man noch hingehen und pflanzen 'müssen' ... ich nenne sowas 'kaputtsaniert'. Denn worauf es in den Parks und im GSNM doch am meisten ankommt, ist Prozess-Schutz für die 'wilde Natur' ! Und dazu zählen nun einmal auch Ausfälle.
Wenn man aus einem Urwald einen 'Park' oder Englischen Gartens macht, ist das Wertvollste verloren.
